One of the cancer lectures I went to was on how to use selected nutriceuticals, phytochemicals and functional foods to influence tumor suppression and tumor promoter genes. Wow. It was super interesting and I was happy to see many medical professionals in the room. I had the pleasure of sitting next to this amazing pediatric oncologist who told me she has seen a rise in children’s cancer over the last couple of decades. In fact, she was currently treating a newborn that had brain cancer. WHAT?!?!?! I knew right there and then that I had to write this blog post and share it with more then just my friends!

Social media outlets are frenzied over the flu shot debate (not to mention the vaccine debate in general). “To get or not to get the flu shot”. As a physician, I am often asked this exact question. My answer is that it is a complicated decision and depends on your beliefs, your genetics, and your current health.
When I was in school I had to write my final paper on cancer prevention through diet. WOW! I'm so grateful I was given that assignment. It opened my eyes and really changed the way my family eats. Before being fully educated on the topic, I would buy organic here and there and just thought I was doing "the right thing". But I really didn't understand the bigger picture.
