Warning: Pregnant Moms Addicted To Junk Food May Pass Addiction Onto Offspring

Attention all pregnant mamas!

Did you know that you can pass on your junk food addiction to your baby?  You know who you are, don't worry, your secret is safe with me. ;-)

The good news about this study is...

Once again it re-enforces that good nutrition is essential during pregnancy and lactation,  your baby is made from what you eat and drink and their future health depends on it.

Here is proof!  New research published in the March 2013 issue of The FASEB Journal, suggests that pregnant mothers who consume junk food actually cause changes in the development of the opioid signaling pathway in the brains of their unborn children. What does that mean??  It means that those babies and children are less sensitive to opioids, which are released when the baby or child eats foods that are high in fat and sugar.  Unfortunately, these children, born with a higher "tolerance" to junk food need to eat more of it to achieve a "feel good" response. YIKES!

"This study shows that addiction to junk food is a true addiction." said Gerald Weissmann, M.D., Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal. "Junk food engages the same body chemistry as opium, morphine or heroin.  Sad to say, junk food during pregnancy turns the kids into junk food junkies."
