Have you ever wondered what the size of your newborn's stomach capacity is?
I find this so interesting!!!
A day old newborn's stomach is 5-7 ml. about the size of a marble. Research shows that your baby's stomach doesn't stretch to hold more milk, so your colostrum from your breast milk is perfect for them. The colostrum seals their gut lining and activates the most powerful natural immune system booster ever. The first few days your body will only produces colostrum. Which is perfect for a newborn.
By day 3, your newborn's stomach has grown to about 0.75 - 1 oz. or about the size of a "shooter" marble. It's super important that your newborn gets small, frequent feedings to insure your newborn is getting enough nutrition.
By day 7, your newborn's stomach is about 1.5 - 2oz. or about the size of a pingpong ball. Keep feeding your newborn about every 2- 3 hours.
When breastfeeding make sure you are feeding them 8 - 12 times in each 24 hour!!! Yes, that means you will feel that is all you do. ;-)
